The History Of The America Ground

The America Ground takes its name from a small area of land in Hastings, England. In the early 1800s a group of settlers moved onto the site claiming immunity from rent, taxes or laws because as they saw it, the land had recently been sea and had no legal owner or juristiction. The local  authorities attempted to evict the settlers and found themselves forcibly thrown out.

The settlers went on to effectively proclaim the area an Independent State!  The Hastings Americans as they came to be known flew The Stars and Stripes in direct defiance of the Crown and as a sign of affinity with the real Americans who had gained their independence within living memory.

We loved the story and though it would be a cool name for business dealing in authentic USA Made goods – a bit of genuine USA available from the Hastings in the UK.
