The History Of The America Ground

We named our company after The America Ground an area of land next to the sea in Hastings UK near where we are based.

In the early 1800s a group of settlers moved onto the site claiming immunity from rent, taxes or laws because as they saw it, the land had recently been sea and had no legal owner or jurisdiction. The local authorities attempted to evict the settlers and found themselves thrown out instead!

The settlers went on to cheekily proclaim the area an Independent State!  The Hastings Americans as they came to be known flew The Stars and Stripes in direct defiance of the Crown and as a sign of affinity to the real Americans who had gained their independence within living memory.

We loved the story and thought it would be a cool name for business dealing only in authentic USA made products – a bit of genuine USA in the UK.
